The University Bulldogs struggled with assists on Friday (the Resurrection Christian Cougars had 22 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. University took a serious blow against the Cougars, falling 89-37. University was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-21.
Gage Schminke and Coehn Nitzel certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Schminke scored 15 points, while Nitzel scored nine points. Schminke is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played.
Resurrection Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cade Crutcher, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Crutcher has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Barker, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
University's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-12. As for Resurrection Christian, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. One thing working in Berthoud's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games. As for Resurrection Christian, they will be playing at home against the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Platte Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Cougars are ranked 17th).
