The Kennedy Commanders will head out on the road to face off against the DSST: College View Wolves at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Kennedy came up short against Standley Lake and fell 50-43. The loss continues a trend for the Commanders in their matchups with the Gators: they've now lost four in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Morgan Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. She also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Kennedy is 3-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Keana Venegas-Alvarez, who posted ten points and four steals.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for DSST: College View against Girls Athletic Leadership School - Denver back in December of 2024 as the squad secured a 46-19 victory.
Kennedy better keep an eye on Da'Naiya Hickey. She was instrumental in DSST: College View's win, almost dropping a triple-double on 27 points, 17 rebounds, and nine steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Hickey has scored at least a third of DSST: College View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliya Brown, who put up eight points and three steals.
DSST: College View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
DSST: College View has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. As for Kennedy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Kennedy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 boards per game. However, it's not like DSST: College View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Kennedy against DSST: College View in their previous meeting back in January of 2021, as the team secured a 63-35 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kennedy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
