Dillon Heaton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clinton Central is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Heaton was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Heaton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brady Boone, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Boone has become a key player for Clinton Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Another was Creed Mennen, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Daleville hit Tri-Central with a four-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 6-5. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Clinton Central, Tri-Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Jake Cherry. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Cherry was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
