If The Speedway Sparkplugs were riding high off their 48-13 takedown of the Crawfordsville Athenians last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Speedway lost to Monrovia at home by a decisive 20-3 margin on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 48 points in the game before, Speedway couldn't push the score so high this time.
Connor Moreland threw for 115 yards on 13 of 22 attempts. Christian Cooke was his top target, picking up 49 receiving yards. On the ground, Tyreese Johnson rushed for 30 yards.
Monrovia had a senior duo take command as Dominic Kindle rushed for 170 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries and Brayton Belcher rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Kindle really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Speedway to a paltry 175 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Monrovia's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Speedway's QB won't forget Horrace Kollie anytime soon given Kollie sacked him four times.
Speedway's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Monrovia, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Speedway does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Monrovia will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tri-West Hendricks at 7:00 p.m.
