Basketball Game Preview: Wakefield Wolverines vs. Willow Spring Storm

The Wakefield Wolverines and the Willow Spring Storm will round out the year against one another at at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wakefield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Ravenscroft 81-24 on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Wakefield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddison McIntyre out in front who posted 14 points and three steals. McIntyre is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Jaya Hamilton was another key player, putting up 16 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Willow Spring was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Garner 62-14. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Trojans are ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willow Spring has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for Wakefield, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 6-2.
