Sheffield extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-9. They lost 13-6 to the Lexington Golden Bears. Bulldogs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Golden Bears since Friday.
Jaylen Gangar was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was C Brooks, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
As for Lexington, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. That looming 13-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
On Lexington's side, Jacob Nava was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Nava has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lucas Eddy was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Jake Lard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Looking ahead, Sheffield will take on Tharptown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.29 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lexington, they will square off against East Lawrence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
