The Thornton Trojans's seven-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 37-21 win over Stargate School. The win was just what Thornton needed coming off of a 65-5 loss in their prior contest.
Thornton was led to victory by Camryn Montelongo and Julionna Sandoval. Montelongo scored eight points along with 12 rebounds, while Sandoval scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sandoval has scored at least 25% of Thornton's points.
Even though they lost, Stargate School were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thornton only pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Thornton's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-2. As for Stargate School, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-2.
Thornton's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Prairie View at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th. Prairie View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Thornton in Colorado (Prairie View is ranked 67th, while Thornton is ranked 244th). Stargate School will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Bruce Randolph at 3:00 p.m. on December 8th.
