Wellington hasn't had much luck against Severance recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Silver Knights at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wellington 3.8, Severance 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wellington blew Roosevelt out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Roosevelt got their revenge. The Eagles fell just short of the Roughriders by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since September 21, 2024.
Taylor Morgan put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Morgan wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kensley Story, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Severance waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 18-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Silver Knights, who have now won 13 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Wellington, Severance also got a great game from a two-way player: Camryn Henneke. On the mound, Henneke tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Stimatze pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Henneke posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in August. At the plate, Henneke went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Stimatze went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Henneke also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Taylor Steenburgen and Kenzy Henneke did most of the damage at the plate: Steenburgen went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Kenzy went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carly Zentveld, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Severance kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are undefeated (14-0) when they post 11 or more hits.
Wellington's defeat dropped their record down to 18-4. As for Severance, their record is now 17-4-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wellington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. However, it's not like Severance struggles in that department as they've averaged .524. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wellington came up short against Severance in their previous matchup back in September, falling 6-2. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
