It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Lamesa Tornadoes can now relate to. They were dealt a 56-20 defeat at the hands of Muleshoe on Friday. Lamesa's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Lamesa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Benito Barrioz. Despite the final result, he rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown.
Muleshoe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josue Sigala led the charge by rushing for 115 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Sigala is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. Daniel Sianez was another key contributor, rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Muleshoe, adding 18 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Mauricio Herrera: he added 18 points with six field goals.
Lamesa's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Muleshoe, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Lamesa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Muleshoe will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Brock at 5:00 p.m. Brock is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
