Softball Recap: Fremont Sets Scoring Season-High Against Lynbrook

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fremont). Everything went their way against the Lynbrook Vikings on Friday as they made off with a 21-1 victory. With that win, the Firebirds brought their scoring average up to 7.5 runs per game.

Charlene Hiek made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Hiek was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Jiyah Caban and Natalie Kim did most of the damage at the plate: Caban got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Kim got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Caban has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Kwan, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.

Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lynbrook only posted an OBP of .278.

Fremont moved to 2-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Lynbrook, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fremont will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st. As for Lynbrook, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
