Alhambra has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Northgate Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alhambra has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 228 points over their last four matches.
Last Friday, Alhambra never let their opponents score. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 65-0 victory over Ygnacio Valley. Given Alhambra's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 404th, while Ygnacio Valley is ranked 994th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Beau Blau and Luke Beaty were among the main playmakers for Alhambra as the former threw for 166 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes and the latter picked up 106 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Alhambra also got a significant boost from Elias Aleman, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Northgate can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They managed a 31-27 victory over College Park. The victory was just what Northgate needed coming off of a 35-14 defeat in their prior game.
Northgate got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kawika Boyd out in front who threw for 160 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes. Another player making a difference was Rj Anderson, who rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Alhambra's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Ygnacio Valley and 2-5-1 Berean Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 31.3% over those games). As for Northgate, their victory bumped their record up to 1-7.
Alhambra suffered a grim 34-13 defeat to Northgate in their previous matchup back in March of 2021. Can Alhambra avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
