Baseball Recap: Atchison Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Atchison strolled into their game on Thursday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over the Washington Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Phoenix also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Brody Barnes made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Barnes was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Atchison got a massive performance out of Yogi Purdy, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Purdy is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Leighton Boldridge, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Atchison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Atchison's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atchison will welcome Leavenworth at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Washington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Highland Park at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
