Softball Recap: Carmel Has No Trouble Against Lake Zurich

Carmel not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 18, 2024 (when they won 14-1). They blew past the Lake Zurich Bears 16-3. Considering the Corsairs have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlyn Konen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Konen was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grace King and Grace Brown did most of the damage at the plate: King went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Brown went 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most runs Brown has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kate Buckingham, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Carmel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matchups.

Carmel's record now sits at 15-6. As for Lake Zurich, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14-1 record this season.

Carmel is taking a road trip to face off against Oswego at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Zurich, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Zion-Benton at 4:45 p.m.
