The Hopewell-Loudon Chieftains will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty-Benton Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Liberty-Benton will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Hopewell-Loudon extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Chieftains blew past Danbury 13-3.
Matthew Wyman was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wyman was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Brayden Brickman and Kellen Frankart did most of the damage at the plate: Brickman got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Frankart got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Brickman has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylon Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Hopewell-Loudon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Danbury only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Liberty-Benton made easy work of Patrick Henry on Tuesday and carried off a 15-7 win. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Liberty-Benton pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their record is now 18-5.
Hopewell-Loudon might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Liberty-Benton in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
