Pinewood Prep is 9-1 against the Generals since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Pinewood Prep Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Cathedral Academy Generals at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Pinewood Prep fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down St. John's Christian Academy 41-27 on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Academy entered their tilt with the Cavaliers with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Cathedral Academy simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Cavaliers 52-10 at home. Given Cathedral Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cathedral Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Claire Griffin, who scored 19 points, and Jalyn Almeida, who scored 24 points. Almeida hasn't dropped below 15 points for 13 straight games.
Pinewood Prep's victory ended a eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-18. As for Cathedral Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Pinewood Prep skirted past the Generals 47-44 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pinewood Prep since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
