Basketball Recap: Wharton Wins Going Away Against Needville

Wharton won the last time they faced Needville and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Wharton Tigers put the hurt on the Needville Bluejays with a sharp 62-38 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 24 points or more this season.

Wharton had a senior duo take command as Jacoryan Dickerson dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds and Keilon Jackson went 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points and three steals. That's the most points Jackson has posted since back in November of 2024. Ja'Keon Jackson was another key player, putting up seven points and eight boards.

Wharton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Several Bluejays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bohdan Zeitz, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Jaedon Williams also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first boards of the season.

Wharton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.8 points. As for Needville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wharton will venture away from home to face off against Bay City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wharton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. Needville has already played their next matchup (against Columbia), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
