The Auburn Trojans will head out to challenge the Tahoma Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Auburn has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with six straight defeats, while Tahoma will come in with eight straight victories.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Auburn's offense. They came up short against Kentwood on Tuesday, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Trojans' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Auburn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Tahoma owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Kennedy Catholic with a sharp 8-0 win. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Not much got past Alexa Ramirez, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Kennedy Catholic off the board.
At the plate, Kalani Higa was incredible, firing off two home runs and one double while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Mia Hammington was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Tahoma lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive contests.
Tahoma's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Auburn, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Auburn's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's match. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Tahoma, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Auburn continue to outrun the ball?
Auburn suffered a grim 18-5 defeat to Tahoma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
