Alyssa Herrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angelina Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Marivel Martinez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Mathis lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Odem had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-4.
Aria Bray made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Julia Garza was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
Mathis pushed their record up to 7-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Odem, their record is now 9-10.
Odem's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mathis hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Odem, though, as they've only averaged .230. Will they be able to contain Mathis' hitters?
Everything went Mathis' way against Odem in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Mathis made off with a 14-0 win. Does Mathis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Odem turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
