Hemlock is on a 15-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Frankenmuth is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hemlock Huskies will take on the Frankenmuth Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Hemlock made off with a 53-52 win over Cass City. Given Hemlock's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Cass City is ranked 356th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hemlock can attribute much of their success to Carly Siler, who scored 15 points, and Lauren Borsenik, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Borsenik has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kylee Miller was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Frankenmuth gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Birch Run 71-18 on the road.
It was another big night for Mia McLaughlin, who went 9 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 33 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alyson Peterson, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Hemlock's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Frankenmuth, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Saturday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Hemlock have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Frankenmuth struggles in that department as they've made 40.4% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Hemlock suffered a grim 55-35 defeat to Frankenmuth in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Hemlock, Lexi Boyke (who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
