Basketball Recap: Orr Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Cyrus Westbrooks and Damarion Johnson

Orr was the 58-54 winner over Schurz when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Orr Spartans took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Schurz Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Orr's loss came despite strong showings from Damarion Johnson and Cyrus Westbrooks. Johnson went 7 of 14 en route to 23 points along with five rebounds and four steals, while Westbrooks went 6 for 9 on his way to 19 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Westbrooks a new career-high in points. Prince Williams was another key player, putting up a point in addition to seven boards and three steals.

MICHAEL CHANEY JR continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Schurz, going 8 of 15 en route to 33 points and five steals. With that strong performance, CHANEY JR is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was CAMERON TRENT, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points.

Orr's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Schurz, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orr will square off against Austin College and Career Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Orr is facing Austin College and Career Academy at the right time seeing as Austin College and Career Academy is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Schurz, they will challenge Clemente at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Schurz is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
