Green River extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-11. They came up short against the Tintic Miners, falling 16-7. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2021.
David Mendez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Cooper Meadows also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Tintic, they moved to 4-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won four matches by nine runs or more so far this season.
On Tintic's side, Kelan Bigler and Camden Johnson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Bigler tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Johnson tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Bigler also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Tintic is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-7 otherwise. At the plate, Bigler went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Johnson went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Those four runs gave Johnson a new career-high.
In other batting news, Tintic got a massive performance out of Gavin Bratt, who went 4-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Bratt a new career-high. Emmitt Despain was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Green River has already played their next contest, a 10-0 loss against Wayne on the 17th. As for Tintic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-3 win against Wendover on the 19th.
