The Hazen Highlanders struggled with threes on Wednesday (the Mercer Island Islanders had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Hazen fell 60-48 to Mercer Island. Hazen has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hazen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dakota Nap, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Nap has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Makenna Garrett, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
It was another big night for Caitlin Monahan, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals for Mercer Island. Elianna Weiss was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with four steals.
Hazen now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Mercer Island, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazen on the road again on Friday and play against Interlake at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for Mercer Island, they will square off against Bellevue at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
