This season hasn't been kind to the Geibel Catholic Gators, who are still winless after their 15th contest. They fell 53-45 to Cheswick Christian Academy on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Geibel Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 750th, while Cheswick Christian Academy is ranked 228th).
Several Gators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tommy Kolencik, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Kolencik is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last six games he's played. Gary Tarbuk was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Geibel Catholic bumped their record down to 0-15 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Cheswick Christian Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
Geibel Catholic will look to defend their home court on Monday against Jefferson-Morgan at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Jefferson-Morgan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. Cheswick Christian Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Trinity Christian at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st.
