Basketball Recap: Ny'asia Young's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ridge Spring-Monetta over Williston-Elko

After flying high against Pelion last Wednesday, Ridge Spring-Monetta came back down to earth. The Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans fell to the Williston-Elko Blue Devils 45-39. The Trojans have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ny'Asia Young, who posted seven points and 15 rebounds. Young is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Ruby Powell was another key player, putting up five points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Ridge Spring-Monetta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Ridge Spring-Monetta's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Williston-Elko, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Ridge Spring-Monetta will welcome Blackville-Hilda at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Williston-Elko, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 37-25 defeat against Bamberg-Ehrhardt on the 16th.
