3A Conference 12 recap September 17, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Jonathan Blackmon and Aaron Blockmon connected against Cape Fear. The connection went for 63 yards, the longest such play in 3A Conference 12 this season.
Union Pines moved up to 310 from 344 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Vikings climbed the ranks as a result of besting Trinity 31-22.
Jahmaal Daniel was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Terry Sanford fell to Triton. Blackmon also contributed to the rushing game with 62 yards on the ground.
Elijah Bulger threw for 253 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 15-23 with 3 interceptions.
Blockmon had a great week catching the football as the Cavaliers lost to the Hawks. He caught 7 passes for 223 yards.
Blockmon was the best wideout in 3A Conference 12 this week as Southern Lee lost to Triton. Kevin McLeod helped Southern Lee's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 20 yards.
Bulger put up the best numbers through the air as Douglas Byrd lost to E.E. Smith. Bulger's favorite target this week was Omar Torres, who caught 5 passes for 96 yards.
Don Simon's team's Emond Caldwell and Blockmon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Caldwell has thrown for 951 yards this season, while Blockmon has 35 catches for 790 yards. The Bulldogs' Daniel leads the league in rushing yards with 464.
Lee County took down Western Harnett 42-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
