Basketball Recap: Jaleen Gibson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Randolph-Clay over Seminole County

If Randolph-Clay was feeling good fresh off their 84-30 takedown of Stewart County last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Randolph-Clay Red Devils fell just short of the Seminole County Indians by a score of 66-64 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Red Devils came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Indians are ranked 359th).

Randolph-Clay's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaleen Gibson, who went 10 for 15 on his way to 24 points and six assists. Those 24 points gave Gibson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Daniels, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Gibson wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Randolph-Clay was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in five consecutive games.

Seminole County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kamauri Johnson out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Beard, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points.

With the loss, Randolph-Clay broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2. As for Seminole County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

Randolph-Clay wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 60-58 win against Monroe on the 11th. As for Seminole County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-38 victory against Stewart County on the 11th.
