The Effingham County Rebels's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 57-37 walloping at the hands of Grovetown. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Effingham County in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Effingham County still got an impressive performance from Kyjana Jordan, who scored 18 points along with seven steals. Another player making a difference was Taniya Proctor, who scored four points along with two steals and two blocks.
Grovetown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kenna Middleton out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Middleton pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rebecka Jones, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Effingham County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Grovetown, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Effingham County will square off against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Brunswick's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while the Rebels have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Grovetown, they and the Panthers will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lakeside is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
