Stayton is 10-0 against Newport since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Stayton Eagles will be playing at home against the Newport Cubs at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Stayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Stayton ended up a good deal behind Cascade and lost 62-47. Stayton has struggled against Cascade recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Stayton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ethan Whieldon, who scored nine points along with two steals, and Kaden Holm who scored ten points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Holm grabbed two or more steals.
Stayton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Newport can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 67-38 victory over Sweet Home. The victory was just what Newport needed coming off of a 57-33 loss in their prior game.
Stayton's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Newport, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Stayton against Newport in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 65-25 victory. Does Stayton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newport turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
