It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Basalt Longhorns can now relate to. They suffered a tough 40-19 loss at the hands of The Classical Academy on Saturday. Basalt was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as The Classical Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.
Noah Johnston threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Mav Dombrowski was his top target, picking up 73 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, William Daniel rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Andrew Brown was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Will Schipfer, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Basalt to a paltry 222 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to The Classical Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. Zack Hale was especially locked on to Basalt's QB and sacked him twice.
Basalt's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for The Classical Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Basalt does not have any more games scheduled as of now. The Classical Academy will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Delta at 1:00 p.m. Delta is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
