The high school football season came to a close in Nebraska last Monday and Tuesday at the University of Nebraska's Memorial Stadium. Archbishop Bergan was among the victors, beating Norfolk Catholic 49-20 in the Class C2 state championship game. The win over the long-time power Knights helped propel Archbishop Bergan to the No. 1 ranking in the final Nebraska MaxPreps Top 25.
Archbishop Bergan was led by
Koa McIntyre, who passed and ran for 3,392 yards and 50 touchdowns – including five in the state championship win.
Kade McIntyre, who reeled in four aerials for 60 yards and two scores in the championship game, caught 37 balls on the year for 873 yards and 14 touchdowns.
The Knights scored 595 points in 2021 — an average of 45.8 points per game — while holding their opponents to 148 points over 13 contests. Archbishop Bergan scored 45 points or better in eight contests and limited its opposition to single digit scoring in seven games and posted two shutouts.
Class B state champion Bennington was led all year by 3,000-yard rusher and MaxPreps Nebraska Player of the Year
Dylan Mostek, and finishes the year in the No. 2 spot while Class C1 state champion Columbus Lakeview is third after claiming the school's first state football title.
