Two dominant signal callers in Trenton Zeeb and Makobi Adams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mater Dei Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Mt. Zion Braves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mater Dei will be strutting in after a victory while Mt. Zion will be coming in after a loss.
You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Mater Dei on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew St. Teresa out of the water with a 55-7 final score. With Mater Dei ahead 32-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Mater Dei's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Markus Kerher, who picked up 57 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Zeeb was another key contributor, throwing for 76 yards and three touchdowns on only seven passes.
Meanwhile, Mt. Zion came up short against Effingham on Friday and fell 21-14.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Zion got a solid performance out of Adams, who rushed for 45 yards and two touchdowns.
Mater Dei is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Mt. Zion, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 6-2.
Mater Dei couldn't quite finish off Mt. Zion when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 38-35. Can Mater Dei avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
