The Burges Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Del Valle Conquistadores at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burges is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Burges pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 78-57 walloping at the hands of Midland Legacy.
Despite their defeat, Burges saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anthony Rubio, who scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was Rubio's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Mikey Eason was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Del Valle had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They breezed by Irvin at home to the tune of 73-46. Given Del Valle's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 727th, while Irvin is ranked 1557th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
The losses dropped Burges to 5-8 and Midland Legacy to 4-6.
Burges came up short against Del Valle in their previous matchup back in November, falling 49-42. Can Burges avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
