The Broomfield Eagles had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past Overland with a 77-71 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Broomfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrew Effland out in front who scored 18 points along with 3 steals. Kwinn Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with 4 steals.
Overland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Perez, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isreal Littleton, who scored 11 points along with 3 steals.
Broomfield's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Overland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Broomfield will take on Fruita Monument at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Fruita Monument focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. Overland won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Allowing an average of 55 points per game, Aurora Central has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this game.
