St. Marys has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Silver Lake Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully St. Marys focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
St. Marys has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 21 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 52-17 victory over Rock Creek at home. That 52-17 margin sets a new team best for St. Marys this season.
St. Marys relied on the efforts of Hayden Heim, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five assists, and Isabel Hurla, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Hurla scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Brenna Smith, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Silver Lake entered their tilt with Riley County with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Silver Lake took down Riley County 50-34 last Friday. Given Silver Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Riley County is ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Marys pushed their record up to 4-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. Silver Lake's record is now 3-0.
St. Marys came up short against Silver Lake when the teams last played back in February, falling 65-60. Can St. Marys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
