The Clinton Dark Horses will face off against the Hobbton Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Clinton took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Red Springs, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dark Horses skirted past the Red Devils 11-9. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Dark Horses as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Da'Niyah Coxum was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Carmella Carlton was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Coxum wasn't the only one making solid contact: Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. The Dark Horses are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hobbton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over Lakewood on Thursday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Zannah Hairr made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Hairr was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Sinclair, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rubi Reyes, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.
Hobbton moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Clinton, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-9.
Clinton took their victory against Hobbton when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Dark Horses have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
