Castleberry is 1-9 against Springtown since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lions will welcome the Porcupines at 7:00 p.m. Castleberry has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Castleberry fell victim to Eagle Mountain and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Knights.
Meanwhile, while Springtown put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Bridgeport. The Porcupines put the hurt on the Bulls with a sharp 13-0 win. The Porcupines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
Kylee Spray and Kaylee Falcon made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Spray struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Falcon tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Spray earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Falcon went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Springtown got a massive performance out of Sydney Masterson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Masterson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Morris, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Springtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bridgeport only posted an OBP of .222.
Springtown has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Castleberry, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13-1.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Castleberry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Springtown struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Castleberry might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Springtown in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
