Overland relied on the efforts of Siraaj Ali, who shot 58% from the field en route to 16 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds, and Tj Manuel, who went 7-for-9 on his way to 18 points and eight assists. The contest was Ali's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Isreal Littleton, who went 6-for-7 to rack up 12 points and six boards.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Overland was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista's and Loveland's match on Friday was close at halftime, but Mountain Vista turned on the heat in the second half with 57 points. Mountain Vista breezed past Loveland to the tune of 81-47. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 25 points or more this season.
Overland better keep an eye on Oliver Junker. He was instrumental in Mountain Vista's win, dropping a triple-double with ten points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. What's more, Junker posted five blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Cal Baskind was another key player, shooting 44% from the field on his way to 19 points and three steals.
Mountain Vista's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-5. As for Overland, their record is now 11-13.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Overland hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.5 points per game. However, it's not like Mountain Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 76.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Overland came up short against Mountain Vista in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 72-63. Thankfully for Overland, Henry Gamble (who went 10-for-14 en route to 33 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
