Berea-Midpark and Avon Lake are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Titans will head out to challenge the Shoremen at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Berea-Midpark's pitching crew has only allowed 1.2 runs per game this season, so Avon Lake's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Berea-Midpark fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against GlenOak on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The contest marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Berea-Midpark saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danny Bowser, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Avon Lake). They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over Midview on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Shoremen have posted against the Middies since April 13, 2022.
Josh Bobrowski was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bobrowski was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Josh Striffler tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Chase Cartwright was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Grant LeHoty, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Avon Lake's victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3. As for Berea-Midpark, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.
Everything went Berea-Midpark's way against Avon Lake in their previous matchup last Tuesday, as Berea-Midpark made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
