Wheelersburg and South Webster are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2020, but not for long. The Pirates will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Jeeps at 5:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wheelersburg comes in on four and South Webster on three.
On Tuesday, Wheelersburg got the win against Waverly by a conclusive 3-0.
One reason for the win was Wheelersburg's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-17, 25-16.
Wheelersburg can attribute much of their success to Mylee Gleim, who had 14 digs and one assist. Mati Jennings also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Meanwhile, South Webster made easy work of Portsmouth West on Tuesday and carried off a 3-0 win.
South Webster's got stronger as the match went on, holding Portsmouth West to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-18, 25-12.
Wheelersburg better focus on containing Kinley Horner and Emma Campbell as the pair were huge in South Webster's win. Horner had 14 digs, while Campbell had five digs and two aces. That's the most digs Horner has posted since back in August.
South Webster was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. They are 10-2 when they serve at least ten aces.
Wheelersburg's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for South Webster, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Everything went Wheelersburg's way against South Webster in their previous matchup back in September, as Wheelersburg made off with a 3-0 victory. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Jeeps have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
