Baseball Recap: Northside Wins Going Away Against Mather

Northside barely beat Mather the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Rangers with a sharp 14-2 victory on Monday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

John Piper made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Northside is undefeated when Piper posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Rowan Yen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Northside: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Nick, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Northside is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Mather, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Northside is set to take on their familiar foe Lake View at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mather will square off against rival Clemente at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
