Allentown Central Catholic and Whitehall are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Vikings will square off against the Zephyrs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Allentown Central Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Allentown Central Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They won by a run and slipped past Pocono Mountain West 8-7. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Matthew Rader was a standout: he scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Kadin Hawk, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Allentown Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .667 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Whitehall ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over Stroudsburg. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Zephyrs.
Nik Christman tossed a big game, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Seth Hoderewski, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Chase Miller was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Allentown Central Catholic pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Whitehall, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Whitehall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Allentown Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. It's a different story for Whitehall, though, as they've only averaged .232. Will they be able to contain Allentown Central Catholic's hitters?
Allentown Central Catholic might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Whitehall in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
