The Manitou Springs Mustangs can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 35-26 victory over Lamar. The win was just what Manitou Springs needed coming off of a 40-14 defeat in their prior matchup.
Manitou Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Gentzel led the charge by throwing for 167 yards and four touchdowns, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Manitou Springs also got help from Sam Fournier who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
When it comes to explaining why Lamar lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deyago Vasquez. Despite the final result, he threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.4 yards per attempt. Austin Thacker was another key contributor, picking up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Manitou Springs' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Lamar, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6.
Manitou Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lamar also has no future games currently scheduled.
