The Elizabeth Minutemen lost against the Watchung Hills Regional Warriors back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Elizabeth fell 20-13 to Watchung Hills Regional. While losing is never fun, Elizabeth can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Watchung Hills Regional is ranked 50th).
Arique Flemming rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 154 yards and a touchdown. Imad Canty Jr. was his top target, picking up 124 receiving yards.
This is the second loss in a row for Elizabeth and nudges their season record down to 1-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.0 points per game. As for Watchung Hills Regional, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3.
Elizabeth will face off against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eastside comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Watchung Hills Regional, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bridgewater-Raritan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
