The Triton Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Midway Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Triton took on Western Harnett on Tuesday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 14-1 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Kason Brown spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits.
On the hitting side, Brayden Bates and Alan Hinson did most of the damage at the plate: Bates went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs, while Hinson scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Hinson has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zach Roberson, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Triton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Midway got themselves on the board against Red Springs on Tuesday, but Red Springs never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Red Devils. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.
Harry Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Luke Peterson was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Wyatt Herring was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Midway's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Triton, their record is now 11-8.
Triton skirted past Midway 7-5 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
