The Montgomery Bears will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rudder Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Montgomery humbled Lamar Consolidated with a 52-20 victory. The win was just what Montgomery needed coming off of a 56-28 loss in their prior matchup.
Reggie Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, while also throwing for 219 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes. Williams was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 64 yards. Talan Shavers was another key contributor, picking up 106 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Rudder's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 43-24 to Randle. While losing is never fun, Rudder can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Randle is ranked 123rd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaquise Martin, who picked up 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Bruce Hendrick, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Montgomery's win lifted them to 1-8 while Rudder's loss dropped them down to 3-6.
Montgomery strolled past Rudder in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 by a score of 42-28. Will Montgomery repeat their success, or does Rudder have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
