It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Loyola Cubs can now relate to. They took a 17-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of Yorba Linda on Friday. Loyola's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Thomas Knyal threw for 67 yards on ten of 21 attempts. Khalil Cueva was his top target, picking up 27 receiving yards. On the ground, Sean Morris rushed for 94 yards.
Yorba Linda got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Holden Nagin out in front who rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 100 yards and a touchdown. Yorba Linda also got help from Jake Ridenour who showed off his sure hands for 82 receiving yards.
Loyola's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Yorba Linda, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Loyola does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Yorba Linda will head out on the road to face off against Corona del Mar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Corona del Mar is ranked 66th, while Yorba Linda is ranked 67th).
