New Castle is 7-2 against Shelbyville since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Castle Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Shelbyville Golden Bears at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully New Castle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, New Castle ended up a good deal behind Anderson and lost 62-46. While losing is never fun, New Castle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Anderson is ranked 46th).
New Castle's loss came about despite a quality game from Landon Thompson, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds. The matchup was Thompson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Taylor, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Shelbyville waltzed into Saturday's contest with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 50-44 win over Connersville.
Shelbyville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mar Nicholson, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ethan Lambert, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds.
Their wins bumped New Castle to 2-2 and Anderson to 4-0.
New Castle beat Shelbyville 50-38 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Castle since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
