The Martin Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 81-42 loss at the hands of United. While losing is never fun, Martin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 908th, while United is ranked 165th).
When it comes to explaining why Martin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kiara Gonzalez. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Gonzalez scored a full 45.2% of Martin's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Rochelle Cranston, who scored 9 points.
Martin has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for United, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Martin's road trip will continue as they head out to face Marshall at 10:30 a.m. on December 1st. Marshall will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for United, they will take on Southwest at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Thursday.
