Spanish Fork is a perfect 10-0 against Payson since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spanish Fork Dons are taking a road trip to face off against the Payson Lions at 3:30 p.m. The last three games Spanish Fork has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
While Spanish Fork's victory against Crimson Cliffs wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Spanish Fork narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Crimson Cliffs 8-6.
Spanish Fork let Jade Romero and Blakely Hathaway run wild. Romero scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Hathaway went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. What's more, Romero posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Lia Higginson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Payson duked it out with Hurricane on Saturday. Payson blew past Hurricane 8-2. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Aydrie Christensen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Christensen was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Allie Callahan was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Anna Marvin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Payson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hurricane struck out six times.
Spanish Fork's record is now 2-4. As for Payson, their record is now 6-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Spanish Fork has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Payson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Spanish Fork beat Payson 9-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spanish Fork since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
