Maywood Academy is 8-2 against Elizabeth since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Maywood Academy Nighthawks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Elizabeth Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Maywood Academy's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Elizabeth has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Maywood Academy posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 74-39 victory over Maywood CES at home. The win was just what Maywood Academy needed coming off of a 79-42 defeat in their prior matchup.
Maywood Academy can attribute much of their success to Edinson Castaneda, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Rodrigo Miranda, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 assists. Castaneda continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Fernando Payan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth took a serious blow against Marquez on Wednesday, falling 93-29. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elizabeth has scored all season.
Maywood Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Elizabeth, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Maywood Academy came up short against Elizabeth in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 61-49. Can Maywood Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
